Do not try to rush the grieving process. Telling yourself that it was just a pet and should not feel this way just invalidates your feelings and makes you feel worse. Accept your pain and understand that only time will heal.
If you feel comfortable doing, do not rush to get rid of anything that might remind your pet. Sometimes removing everything that reminds us of the pet who has shared our life for years just makes the gap seem larger.
Look for people who can understand how you feel. Many people understand what you are feeling, and an ear and a box of tissues will make you feel better.
Make a collage of images to celebrate the life of your pet. You can include images from all stages of the life of your pet as a reminder of the good times you shared with her.
Light a candle for your pet. Our resources page is a link to a Web site where you can light a “virtual candle” for free. This will make you feel better.
Buy a pet urn or memory box. If you choose to cremate your pet , you can keep the ashes there. If you choose not to cremate your pet, or if you pull the ashes, you can save your favorite ball or leash, to create a memorial for your pet. It does not need to be expensive to be attractive.
