A
two-year study by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) shows that a weight loss diet with low carbohydrate or a Mediterranean diet (Mediterranean diet) may be equally safe and effective for weight loss as a diet with a little fat.

A little carbohydrate gave more weight loss and healthier cholesterol levels than the other two studies. Mediterranean diet (Mediterranean diet) gave almost as good as some carbohydrate weight loss. The study is published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study involved 322 moderately obese subjects randomly selected to follow one of three diets:

1. A little fat

In this weight loss diet reduced the amount of fat. A maximum number of calories was that would not be exceeded. This weight loss diet is recommended by many authorities in the western world and conventionally considered to be appropriate for weight loss.

2. Mediterranean Weight Loss Diet

Tier-two followed a Mediterranean diet. Such a diet rich in nuts, fruit, fish, beans and vegetables. A maximum number of calories that participants would not exceed existed.

3. A little carbohydrate

The last group of slimmer followed a weight loss diet with low carbohydrates. This group had no upper limit on the number of calories they were eating.

Those at least carbohydrates, most fat, more protein and more cholesterol from the weight loss diet.

Number of calories and weight loss

After two years, the group who ate little carbohydrates lost the most weight : Weight Loss Diet

A little fat 2.9 kg

Mediterranean Diet 4.4 kg

A little carbohydrate 4.7 kg

- These results in weight loss is comparable to the drug against obesity, says Dr. Iris Shai who led the research.
