A
soup, low in calories, to start a meal can help to eat less and consume fewer calories according to a recent research by Penn State. When participants in this research began a meal with a soup, they reduced 20% of their total consumption of calories.
Dr. Barbara Rolls and her colleagues have examined whether different forms soup, vegetables in broth or vegetables passed the blender, have different effects on the food and satiety.
While the assumption was that the thickness or degree of chewing required could affect satiety, the results show that a low-calorie soup, regardless of its form, has the same effect.
This research, and earlier, show that meals begin with soup may help control weight loss, researchers believe. But the condition of choosing soups are low in calories (between 100 and 150 per serving), based broth rather than creamy.
